Overview

Rebellion is a course about becoming the climate action-ist the world needs.

It begins with an honest account of the problem — not a comfortable one. Global warming, fossil fuels, timelines, what is already baked in, feedback loops, tipping points, and the way collapse cascades between food, migration, democracy, artificial intelligence, inequity, extinction, consumerism and capitalism. These are not separate problems and the course does not treat them as separate.

Then it turns. There is a tiny window, no new technology is needed, and shifts of this kind have happened before and faster than anyone expected. The second half is about what becoming a rebel actually asks of you: the Stockdale paradox, useful anger, talking about it, avoiding hypocrisy, being radical, and the specific matter of the food you eat, the way you travel, and the things you buy.

J. Paul Neeley - Speculative Designer & Researcher

J. Paul studied Speculative Design with Dunne & Raby on the Design Interactions course at the Royal College of Art, and has spent the years since applying these methods with organisations from start-ups to multinationals to the United Nations. He founded the School of Critical Design with Gemma Jones in 2017.
